more of Oregon

This is our last full day in Oregon. We decided to head south for the day and we took a scenic drive down the highway with some great views of the coastlines (exactly the kind of views you think of when you imagine the coast in Oregon). Our destination was the Tillamook Cheese Factory and the Cape Meares state park.

Tillamook has been a victim of its success, I think. The place is crowded with people - very touristy. It was interesting to see the cheese packaging line, but there is really not much else of the cheese making process that is viewable (which I knew about from reading reviews). We did have some really creamy ice cream which was very good and reasonably priced. After that we drove to Cape Meares and toured Oregon's shortest lighthouse. It had a tour inside that was well done (and free). Just a short walk from the lighthouse is the Octopus Tree which is an unusually large Sitka spruce tree with no central trunk with limbs coming out of it - hence the Octopus name.

Later we drove back to Cannon Beach for some beach time and then dinner.

Another full day!
