The last official long weekend of summer 2012

We headed down to Vancouver and stayed at our favourite Sandman Signature hotel again. We took the kids to the PNE on Saturday and we were there from about 11am when the fair opened until close to 4:30pm. Highlights were the Peking Acrobats, Superdogs, fair foods, Sophie's glitter eye shadow at the Marketplace, Canfor Kid's Playhouse and of course a tour through the PNE Showhome. We also loved the animals -- especially the beautiful horses and the baby calves.

On Sunday we picked up Vic's mom who lives in one of the Metro Vancouver suburbs and took her to VanDusen Gardens which is in Vancouver proper. The garden was beautiful and not too busy. We had a nice walk through the trails and the kids had fun in the English Maze. That was followed by lunch in the Truffles Cafe. After that we took Grandma on a drive through the UBC Endowment Lands and then back home to her apartment. We let the kids run off some steam at the very fun playground at the Willoughby Community Park in Langley. For $5.5 million you get one heck of a playground, splash park, and lovely grounds. We loved how there was cushy astro turf-like material below the playground structures. No bark mulch and slivers!

Homewards tomorrow.
