for today

FOR TODAY
June 27st, 2009

Outside my window...I'm looking at the tree in our backyard.

I am thinking...I'd like to scrapbook a layout about Fynn and his new "Little Monster" t-shirt.

I am thankful for...healthy kids.

From the kitchen...we are having steak and baby potatoes for dinner tonight.

I am wearing...my brown Tribal shorts (love them -- bought them in Osoyoos last week) and a pink Mexx t shirt. No shoes.

I am creating...a post for my blog.

I am going...to get Sophie something else to eat (again).

I am reading...All the Colours of Darkness.

I am hoping...that Fynn sleeps a bit longer.

I am hearing...Little Bear on TV.

Around the house...there is a pile of books to be read from the library.

One of my favorite things...is my laptop and this photo of Fynn.

preschool graduation

Today was Sophie's preschool graduation!

The teachers did a great job of making the little ceremony special, especially for the kids that are going off to Kindergarten in the fall.

i'm tired....

i'm tired, really tired. tired emotionally and physically of the demands of doing my job and being a mom to sophie and fynn and the 100 other things that are responsibilties of mine.

i savour the half hour or so i have at the gym each day. today was one of those days however that even the gym couldn't help.

i got a call at 11:00am from the daycare. sophie was supposed to go to the waterpark today but she became so emotional at daycare about feeling the constant urge to pee that they opted to let her rest at the centre with another caregiver. I was in a meeting when the call came in, so I was late in responding. I finally got her in to the doctor's at about 3:45pm. It doesn't appear to be a bladder infection but likely a yeast infection that afflicts little girls and creates a spasm feeling that mimics the urge to pee. After the doctors we went over to fill her prescription. By then, it was so late in the afternoon that there was no point in taking her back to daycare, so she spent the last 45 minutes or so with me at work (writing on her hands in black marker).

I took her to the gym (which is not my typical routine) and she amused herself watching me in my fitness class. Overall she did well, but not the most productive gym time I've had. Back home to dinner (thank you Vic!) and then I drove them to the library during which time Sophie fell asleep.

A quick McDonald's icecream sundae latter that the two of them shared and we came back home. Thankfully storytime was a success tonight as Sophie really enjoyed her library books (small mercies).

They are now happily tucked in bed and I'm facing some laundry and we shall start it all over again tomorrow!!

Looking forward to visiting our family this weekend and taking an extra day off on Monday.

coming up for air

Life is very full right now.

This past Wednesday I had my first meeting as secretary of our local chapter of Parents for French (it is a national organization that encourages French activities/support for French in the school system). Since Sophie starts Kindergarten French Immersion in September, I thought it would be a good way to be involved. The President is really happy I joined up because they needed a secretary who could type! So, I packed up my laptop and took minutes at this past Wednesday's meeting. All went well and it was interesting to meet some of the parents / teachers who have kids in the older grades in French Immersion.

Soccer also wrapped up today for Sophie. While I can't say she loved it, she did persevere (and so did Vic and I), so it was worth it.

My friend Paula and I did a little shopping for our house after soccer today. I needed to replace my living room lamps (Fynn broke one of them and the other one is moving on to a different room). We found some lamps on sales, plus we found some really inexpensive artwork for our ensutie. A successful trip!

Sophie's little friend Eva turned 6 and she had her party out at Sunnybrae beach so that is where we headed to this afternnon. Whew!!

today

Today:

- get kids to daycare, get to work

- do work stuff...somewhere in there get my hair cut. my hairdresser said I really was "overdue" -- he took off a lot!

- realize I forgot to drop off the kids' Scholastic book order. Phone order in to the daycare. Remind daycare Sophie will be late tomorrow b/c of Kindergarten orientation (I keep a zillion facts in my daytimer because my brain will explode).

- get to the gym following daycare. The instructor asks me if I can stay the whole class today..."uh, no, my husband swims tonight so I have to leave 10 minutes early..."

- get home, eat with the kids and say good bye to Vic (did I say hello?)

- take kids to playground (it's Monday's activity) and explain to Sophie why we can't do the water park

- take kids to McDonalds for obligatory Monday night ice cream cone

- bathe kids

- call mom, do laundry and empty dishwasher while kids are in the bath

Tonight:
- ahh...my book, dessert with Vic, bliss.....

dressing up

It was the final get together of our little clothing party group.

We don't usually have a theme, but tonight the hostess asked us to come in a little black dress (and we'd be having martinis).

Here I am ready to go out and of course Fynn had to get in on the act. Photo by my budding photographer, Sophie

10 reasons why Youth Soccer is a good thing

1. It gets us out of the house by 9am on a Saturday (not sure if that is a good thing or not).
2. Sophie is meeting some new kids.
3. Fynn can burn off some of his excess energy.
4. We get to use our fold up chairs with the nifty drink holders.
5. We drink Tim Horton's coffee.
6. Sophie is learning some great skills (although she doesn't know it yet).
7. We are reminded each Saturday that we don't have to be at the soccer field ALL day (like our friend Joanna)
8. Joanna always is prepared with snacks
9. It's cheap
10. Soccer has a short season that merges nicely into summer.

after hours fun

It has been so warm here in the evenings. We've been taking advantage of the long daylight hours and heading over the the playground and water park after dinner.

It is easy, free fun. Yeah!!
