the Real Housewives of Orange County

I really don't like this show (yet I am compulsed to watch it). I don't like it for a number of reasons:

* fake boobs
* peroxide blond hair
* over tanning (doesn't anyone know it's bad for you)
* teen age kids with way too much money and zero responsibility
* Jo (the music star). she rubs me completely the wrong way
* all the cell phone usage (i really don't like cell phones)
* did I say fake boobs?
* big boats, big houses, big cars

Okay, tell me what you like/don't like about this show.

ovaries and such

in the course of my entire reproductive life, i've never given my ovaries much thought. they seemed to work quite well. until this pregnancy. not that my ovaries failed me (i got pregnant after all), but a cyst was discovered on my 6 week u/s way back in March or so. more u/s followed. my doctor and my ob/gyn both said the odds of it being malignant were low (based on my age, and the fact that i've been on the Pill for a long time). when i had my u/s at BC Women's Hospital the u/s was sharp enough to pick up a hair. yes a hair on the cyst. there is a certain kind of cyst called a dermoid cyst that is actually the result of some ovarian eggs/cells going haywire and creating hair, teeth, skin and even thyroid cells. all very creepy but completely benign.

this is likely what i have. the question then becomes when to remove it. not worth the risk of removing it now (i'm at 22-23 weeks). best to wait for my c-section in October. the problem is that only an ob/gyn should remove it and not a general surgeon. that means that likely i will be delivering in Vernon about 45 minutes away. again, not a huge deal as my ob/gyn is from Vernon and she would do the surgery. it just means it won't be as convenient for Vic and Sophie (as right now we are only 10 minutes -- if that) from the local hospital.

i just want the cyst out (it's 5 cm) and this little beanie boy to be delivered safely.

billy talent, triathlons, father's day...

this past weekend, we were down at my parent's place in Oliver.
vic had his first sprint triathlon. he did very well (in spite of someone kicking him in the head during the swim -- ouch). vic recovered from it and finished at 1:20 (and some seconds?).

my youngest brother scott does security for these guys and was in Toronto with them this weekend for the Much Music Video Awards. We also glimpsed scott a few times when they arrived on the red carpet. cool. i had no idea who billy talent was until scott informed me a few months ago. nice having a brother who is 10 years younger. keeps me somewhat current.

friends of the mermaid

tonight my friend Karen invited me out to hear a storyteller. the storyteller is the same woman our bookclub heard when we took a trip to Banff for a girl's weekend a couple of years back.

she was in town. i jumped at the chance to listen to her again. she's very gifted.
the story was about a mermaid who marries a mortal, has kids, gets a job, encounters marital agitation, kid problems. it was all told to us within about 90 minutes.

the storyteller (Mandy) called the group of us the "friends of the mermaid" because we were the first group that she had told the story too. we were honoured.

she is on her way to some workshops on Pender Island. i hope her travels take her back to our little town again so we can hear more.

books, etc

since our bookclub has been meeting less and less, i'm finding that i'm reading more and more (strange how that has worked).

i'm about 3/4 of the way through this book. it's haunting, something i'm having a hard time putting down. it keeps taking turns that i'm not expecting...the way the lives of the characters are unfolding.

we also rented this for tonight.
been wanting to see it for awhile.

and miss sophie in pigtails today.

20 week appointment

i went in for my regular appointment today.
all is well. heartbeat, my blood pressure.

i had a swab (vaginal) a couple of weeks ago because i thought i was "leaking" (sorry if that's a bit TMI). i wasn't leaking, but it does turn out that I have Group B strep in that part of my anatomy. the doctor says many women do have this.
as i will be getting a good dose of antibiotics during my c-section, this isn't a worry.

another little thing that has popped up during this pregnancy.
is this little boy giving me fair warning of all things that are to come once
he makes his entrance? :)

bathing suit shopping

...at 5 motnhs pg is interesting.
i went to swimco and asked if they had any maternity suits. the sales clerk said they did, but it "is ugly."
yes, she was right. she suggested buying a normal suit, but going for a tankinin style, maybe 1 size larger than my usual size.

after a couple of misses, i found one by JAG that i really like in chocolate brown. it's a tankini with a little skirt (not dowdy) that covers me up just enough. i figure it should easily get me through the summer (unless i balloon like crazy).
