Check back later for a little change in direction....
....I'm over here (for now) anyways.

it looked like a good idea

Fynn has been repeatedly climbing out of his high chair and once fell right out. We went shopping for a strapped in booster seat but couldn't find anthing that would fit around our parson chairs. We did find this one that we are going to transition him to in a few months.
For dinner last night we let them eat at their Ikea table. It was cute for about 5 minutes and then Fynn couldn't stay seated. Back in his high chair again tonight.
I finished up a layout about our little preschool graduate :)

A reward well earned
Sophie completed her Sun Fish level swimming lessons today in the Red Cross program. I am very proud of her. She has made it up the ladder and only has to take the Crocodile and Whale and then she will have completed the entire pre-school program. The Sun Fish is #5 out of 7 units.
Her instructor Jordyn commented that she is a "great little swimmer...particularly on distance swims (5 metres)."
Good job, Sophie. Tonight Boston Pizza and a Hannah Montana t-shirt. In some cases, I think rewards are a very good thing.
(and mom deserves one too :)

is the day over yet?
Somedays I think I should just crawl back into bed.
I woke up this morning to Fynn calling out for me.
He had a bloody nose - about the third time this has happened at night in addition to the once a week nosebleeds he gets if he bumps his nose (which seems to happen a lot). This picture looks like something from a crime scene. (and yes, the stain did come out).
I took a photo because I wanted to show it to our doctor. Vic took him in a bit later and he was prescribed Fucidin, an ointment to rub inside his nose, plus he needs to get a blood test to ensure his blood is clotting properly. It likely is, and this is just a precaution. Still it's a bit unsettling seeing this much blood from such a little person.
Sophie's last day of swimming is tomorrow and she was just handed two birthday invitations today. (1 from our neighbour's little girl...the poor people who lost their cat in our pool last week). I guess they don't hold any hard feelings!
Vic and I are starting Season 3 of Weeds tonight. Our guilty pleasure at 10pm.

this and that
When I got home from work these two little beans were sitting on the stairs up to their rooms playing "school". Fynn was deep in a book :)
I've also been on a card-making kick. One of my co-workers is having a baby soon, so I made her a little good luck card.

a sick little girl
Sophie came down with a headache, fever and fatigue yesterday when we were at her grandparents. It went on today and while Tylenol would bring down her fever a bit, it always seemed to go back up again. She slept a fair bit today and had little appetite.
At about 7pm tonight, I figured it was time to do something, so I took her to our walk-in clinic (we always seem to visit there at about 7pm...go figure).
The doctor took one look at her throat and said it was very red. Strep throat.
So she is on antibiotics now and hopefully will have a good nights sleep (and so will I).

some layouts
I'm getting caught up on scanning a couple of layouts that I've done of my little man. He's getting quite a personality. His latest trick is climbing on top of his highchair. We usually catch him doing this, but this morning while I got ready for work and didn't have my eyes on him he did it again. He crashed to the floor in a loud thump followed by some tears. I swear though, he is made of steel. He can rebound like no toddler I've seen.

someone loves spaghetti

Fynn had a ball squishing the meatballs between his fingers and generally making a mess of his dinner last night. A fair bit got into his tummy, too.
Sophie stayed pretty clean and asked if she could pose for a picture. She also then requested my camera so she could take a photo of me (fresh from the gym).
All has been good this week - just busy, as usual. Sophie started swimming lessons (Sun Fish level) and apart from a bit of anxiety the first day she has been doing really well. We have basically told her that swimming lessons are a non-negotiable now that we have a pool.

Sprint Tri and a new friend
Vic ran a sprint triathalon this morning down in Vernon. The kids and I slept through his early morning start, as I couldn't see me waking them up at 6am to drive to Vernon to watch daddy climb into his wet suit. Vic did well - he beat his time last year and came in at a respectable 1 hour 17 minutes.
Nice t-shirt too that he's modelling with Fynn.
Sophie met our neighbour's daughter Maggie yesterday when her family had a yard sale and Sophie scored a new purse, faux cell phone and a doll house for $1! We invited Maggie over to play Barbies today and they hit it off well, even though Maggie is a little bit older and going into Grade 2 this September. Barbies are pretty universal. Here they are with TV "eyes".

summer shearing

It was smoking hot today -- almost too hot, if you ask me.
I took off work a little bit early and took the kids to the mall for haircuts.
They were getting a little shaggy and with the heat, they needed to be a little bit shorter. Vic got in on the act too and got a trim today also. I get mine on Monday (plus some summer highlights).

Canada, eh?
Happy Birthday Canada!
Each year we normally head to Osoyoos to take in the fireworks on Canada Day. With the holiday falling on a Wednesday it just wasn't going to work this year. I'm trying to save my holidays for our summer vacation, NYC in October and a little time at Christmas -- they are a precious thing.
We had a great time staying closer to home. We volunteered a bit at the Children's Festival (our daycare had a couple of booths), took in the festivities and then headed home for lunch. Later our friends Dan, Anita and their two children Avery and Sierra came over for a swim. The kids are close in age so they enjoyed playing together.
Vic commented how nice it was to stay close to home this time of the year. So many tourists on the road and crazy driving -- plus it just wipes us out.
Enjoy the rest of the day!
