House Project Update

Paula and I spent about 5 hours down in Vernon today picking out more lights, a pedestal sink for the powder room, and some towel bars.

We also went to a granite shop and picked out our granite countertop. I was hoping we could get soapstone, since granite seems to be everywhere, but we managed to find an antique looking granite that has an aged appearance.

House Project update

We haven't had a house project update in awhile.

It's been busy with a lot of interior decisions. Flooring, counters, paint -- you name it!

Here is an exterior shot of the front and one of the pool.

The circus came to town.

When I picked Sophie up from daycare at 4:00pm today she asked if I was going to the gym. I asked her why, and she said that she wanted to go to the circus. It's hard to tell little missy that I NEED to go work out and I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go to the circus (this is Salmon Arm, after all). Conveniently enough, the circus event people had given a bunch of free passes to the daycare. Of course parents still have to pay.

So, we rushed home, grabbed a quick bite, bathed Fynn and put on his pjs since we'd be getting home after bedtime for him, and headed over to the circus.

Actually the performers (really the aerialists) had some talent. I can't say their props and equipment were much to look at (old and some of it looked like it needed a power washing). And of course the gimmick factor was high. $6.00 for a few rides down the giant slide at intermission. We didn't do that. And $4.00 for a little thing of cotton candy. We didn't do that either.

But Sophie enjoyed it and Fynn got a kick out of the lights and noise.

Vintage Fisher Price

Today at Fynn's playgroup, they were giving away a few old toys.
None of the toys appealed to me, but this little Fisher Price Nursery School caught my eye. It doesn't have any of the people/furniture.

Here is a link to what the original looked like (circa 1978). Sophie is thrilled with it.

And my little man was caught crawling under our side table today. He's a little monkey.

Water babies

We are in week 2 of swimming lessons for Sophie and Fynn.

Here is Fynn with his teacher, Teresa.

And Sophie with her class and her teacher Morgan. She is very brave -- the only girl and a BOY teacher. Quite a thing for Sophie.

on the lake (Daytrip #3)

We rented a boat for a couple of hours today.
We've tossed around the idea if a boat would be something we would enjoy.
Sophie and Fynn are still pretty young and while we had fun today, we think
it would be a mistake to sink $$ into one right now. Plus the price of gas right now makes even a two hour trip expensive.

Fynn did get himself a new infant life jacket, and Sophie managed to lose
her sunglasses overboard (luckily they were cheapos).

All in all, a fun way to see more of Shuswap lake and be tourists in our own town.

the "lost" Disney photo

This is the last/only photo of our Calif vacation before my Nikon bit the dust in April (it is now back in working order). The rest of our vacation photos were taken on a crummy little disposable.

Here we all are waiting at LAX for our big Disney bus to pick us up and deliver us to our hotel.

An "outie"

Ever since Sophie was a baby, she's had an umbilical hernia (her belly button sticks out). If the hernia hasn't closed up by age 5, they recommend it be fixed. It is very minor surgery (about 1 stitch), but because it would be tough to do local anaesthetic on a child, they recommend a general.

So, Sophie will be going into day surgery in Kamloops sometime next Feb/March (after her 5th birthday). The doctor we saw today in Kamloops was very nice and had a great way with Sophie (plus she is a mom of 4 kids, which helps in my books).

Sophie took it pretty well -- I'm sure there will be more worries as we get closer to the date, but for now she was more interested in the Cotton Candy ice cream she got after her appointment today.

Fynn

He's so damn cute, I could eat him up. He'll be 9 months old on July 10. I have
no idea how much he weighs. I'm sure it's enough.

He's moved into the old Ikea high chair that Sophie had. He really looks like he commands the chair, doesn't he?

I bought him one of those food bowls with the suction on the bottom that are supposed
to stay put on the high chair tray. It didn't stay put. He pulled it off 2 seconds after I stuck it down. So much for that idea.

He had his first "swimming" lesson today. A class full of girls and Fynn.
I'm sure he knows how cute he is.

Atlantis Waterslides

We drove down to Vernon today to Atlantis Waterslides. . It is about 35 minutes south of where we live, so it's an easy trip.

For about $55, all three of us got admission, with Fynn being free. For about 3 hours or so of entertainment, we thought that was reasonable.

We were impressed with the variety of slides: kiddie, intermediate, and the higher speed ones, plus a large hot tub which was needed as it turned overcast. Fynn was able to go down the kiddie slide with me, and then after that we just settled for taking turns with Sophie.

5 for Friday

1. Fynn's new baby floatie is a great invention.

2. I spent over an hour and a half looking at lighting fixtures this week for the new house. That doesn't count time searching for styles on the Internet. We have a list of possibilities and now we are just waiting for prices.

3. I wrote the exam for my WorldatWork course today. All the review was worth it. I feel good about how I did!

4. Vic races in the Kal Rats tri this Sunday. We are all going down for moral support.

5. Fynn is CRANKY. Constantly. Poor teething baby.

the camera is back....

The folks at London Drugs had no idea what Nikon did to fix my camera, but it is back. It cost me $125 for the service fee since it is no longer on warranty, but it's been so long, I'd almost forgotten about how much the fee was. Oh well.

Here are a few photos of the Canada Day weekend:

1-2. Road trip to the state park in Oroville Washington to visit some friends who were camping. Fynn loved skinny dipping. He really enjoys the water...seems to help him forget his terrible teething.

3-4. Photos of Sophie and Travis with their new Dora slip n' slide.

more tomorrow....
