"good people"
I've been called this phrase twice in my life (to the best of my knowledge).
The first time was during one of my earlier jobs and my boss said, "you and your husband are good people." i didn't really take any special note of it.
Yesterday, a new manager we hired said that I was "good people." Now that I'm older I appreciate the comment. I want Sophie to be called that one day...such as, "Sophie and her family are good people."
It's very down-home, folksy, authentic. I think it also is a compliment to one's parents.

I want to enjoy this summer, but...
I CAN'T BECAUSE THERE IS A BABY IN MY UTERUS.
Oiy. I am uncomfortable. Not extremely yet, but certainly enough that I am reminded every single second that I'm pregant. Not that I'm ungrateful (I am NOT). This baby is a blessing, and the fact that he is healthy and I'm almost 40 years old is not something I take lightly.
But, I want to suck in my gut.
I want to run around.
I want to wear little shorts (instead of this one pair of maternity shorts I have). I want to jump.
I want to water ski if I so desire.
I want to my body back. It wasn't super fabulous before, but it was MINE baby.
Oh boy. And I'm only 24 weeks.

A week of mishaps
Could it be Friday the 13th for us ALL WEEK:
1. Last Sunday during the July 1 long weeked, our new Mazda (7000 km) malfunctioned. Something with a computer chip. We had to get our car towed from my parent's place to Kelowna (the closest Mazda dealership). At least they fixed it, but it's kind of hard to totally have faith in the car again.
2. Sophie hasn't been feeling great all week. Fever, grouchiness. Turns out she wakes up on Thursday morning and shows me her feet. Spots on them. It's hand-foot-mouth disease. Sounds scary, but it's a fairly common child hood virus. Rare in adults, but not so rare that Vic didn't come down with it too. You can't do anything for it but let the virus run its course. Touching wood I don't get it.
3. Two weeks ago we ordered Sophie what we thought was a very cool summer toy. Its called a River Run Adventure (from Sears). They mistakenly sent us a tent instead of the River Run, so back the tent went. We DON'T need a tent. The River Run came on Friday. Sophie and dad excitedly put it together. She played with it ONCE. For 5 minutes. We came back the next day. It wouldn't work. Turns out the battery and the motor mechanism are completely fried / burned inside. Could have been a nasty little fire. Back it goes to Sears. No River Run this year.
Fingers crossed the real Friday the 13th this Friday is merrier and luckier.

growth spurt
i think our little peanut boy is experiencing a growth spurt.
it feels like i went to bed last night and woke up with a much bigger belly.
it is getting quite uncomfortable on my lower back and i'm only at 23 weeks.
oh, the joy.
